The Etiology Behind the "Epic of Creation"

The story of Marduk's coming into power illustrates to us the story of anger because of noisiness, which leads to a battle for supremacy over all gods. Moreover, there is an explanation of how certain things came to be the way they are today such as the layout of the earth, the cosmos, the constellations and the domains of the natural world . The Epic of Creation explains to us the etiology of how certain things are today.

To begin, there are the mother and father of the first of all gods, Tiamat, whom is mother ocean and Apsu, whom is fresh water. Following that, begotten by Tiamat and Apsu, Anshar and Kishar, are the horizons of earth and heaven. Lastly, Marduk, the supreme god of all, after defeating Tiamat, begins his creations. After Marduk defeats Tiamat, he cuts her body in half and uses a piece of it to create the domain of the heavens (Tablet IV, lines 138-146). Moreover, Marduk arranges the stars and planets, links parts of the cosmos, as well as regulate the important domains of the earth such as the sun and moon (Tablet V, lines 1-66). According to the Epic of Creation, Marduk, after his defeat of Tiamat, creates the origins of the world today.
