A Lineage of Sin

The Book of Kings continues the pattern in the Old Testament of sin and wickedness of leaders and citizens under God’s rule. Solomon, Rehoboam, Jeroboam, and countless successors to thrones consistently make mistakes that upset God and cost them their families’ lives. I found it ironic that in the beginning of the Book of Kings, God was impressed at Solomon’s humbleness, but later found Soloman to be sinful for erecting alters of other gods. This may be to show that even great men make mistakes, or more likely, it shows an example of how multiple editors influenced the bible. The two editors were likely from before and after the fall of Juda, showing their different view on Solomon and his lineage.
